The heat makes muscles pliable which allows for a deeper, safer more gentler stretching. It also detoxifies the body encouraging muscles to release metabolic waste, which leave the body via sweat. The heat thins the blood, increasing the heart rate for an excellent cardiovascular workout. The sweat not only quickly and efficiently detoxifies the body, but also keeps the body from overheating.
The heat is an excellent tool that:
- Increases flexibility
- Expels toxins
- Requires focus to develop mind-body connection and relaxation
- Increases weight loss and caloric burn
How hot is hot?
The temperature is between 100 and 105 degrees with humidity around 40%. This combination is ideal to promote flexibility and placing the body in an optimal state to receive the maximum benefits from the yoga. Sweat is good – it detoxifies while keeping the body from overheating.
If you normally don’t like heat, you’re not alone. It’s the heat, for most participants, not the postures, that make hot yoga challenging, but with regular practice you’ll learn to tolerate, befriend and love the heat, learning to use it to develop your flexibility, strength, and endurance.
At Hot Yoga of Huntsville, we love to sweat!
